The Story: County Gutters Completes Historic Rainwater System Replacement at Poole Museum
County Gutters has successfully completed a specialist rainwater system replacement at Poole Museum, a landmark site on Poole Quay that showcases the rich history of the area. The project involved replacing all existing rainwater goods with new marine-grade powder-coated aluminium, carefully selected to complement the museum’s historic architecture. One of the key challenges was ensuring that the new system was in keeping with Scaplen’s Court, a Grade I listed building, where the choice of guttering played a crucial role in maintaining the building’s heritage.
For The Wool Hall and Jail House, a 125mm Victorian ogee gutter was installed to replicate the original aesthetic, while Oakley’s Hall required a 150mm cast half-round guttering system. Due to the curvature of the building, the cast half-round gutters—manufactured in 1.8-metre sections—were cut into shorter lengths to seamlessly follow the contours of the structure. To match the original system, 76mm cast collar rainwater pipes were installed across all elevations. Given the museum’s proximity to the harbour, a marine-grade powder coat was applied in RAL 7021 with a leatherette finish, ensuring durability and weather resistance. This project highlights County Gutters’ expertise in delivering bespoke rainwater solutions that balance heritage preservation with modern performance.
