County Gutters were called upon to replace the aging cast iron radius gutter system at the St. Thomas of Canterbury church, which had been converted into housing in 2008. After nearly a century of service, the original cast iron guttering had begun to corrode, making it no longer suitable for the building's needs. Given the historic significance of the property, the challenge was to replace the old guttering with a modern yet durable system that would preserve the architectural integrity of the building while providing a more reliable solution for years to come.
For the replacement, County Gutters installed a 125mm PPC aluminium box gutter in RAL 7015M (Slate Grey). Aluminium was chosen for its resistance to corrosion and its long-lasting qualities, particularly important in an environment where the original gutter had endured decades of wear and tear. The Slate Grey colour complemented the building's classic aesthetic, offering a modern touch that didn't distract from the historic charm of the church-turned-homes. The choice of a bespoke aluminium box gutter ensured durability while maintaining the building's visual appeal.
The project required precise craftsmanship to ensure a perfect fit. A template was created for the radius of the gutter, guaranteeing that the new system would align with the unique curvature of the building's roofline. Furthermore, a custom transition piece was fabricated to seamlessly integrate the new aluminium gutter with the internal section of the building. This bespoke solution showcased the expertise required when working on a historic property, ensuring that modern drainage systems could be introduced without compromising the building's character.
